It’s rarely because they were the biggest, the newest or the most expensive. More often, it’s because they made you feel something. There was a sense of calm as you walked through the front door. The rooms flowed naturally from one to the next, the colours felt effortless, and every piece seemed to belong.
Nothing demanded attention, yet everything worked together.

One of the biggest misconceptions about interior design is that it begins with selecting paint colours, furniture or fabrics.
In reality, those decisions come much later.
The first question I ask every client isn’t “What style do you like?”
It’s “How do you want your home to feel?”
The answer is never simply “modern” or “coastal.”
People tell me they want a home that feels welcoming when family visits. A place where entertaining is effortless. Somewhere they can relax after a busy week. A home that reflects this next chapter of life without feeling formal or precious.
Those conversations become the foundation of every design decision that follows.

Timeless Interiors Aren’t Built Around Trends
Design trends have always existed, and they always will.
While they can be inspiring, I’ve never believed a home should be designed around what’s fashionable today. The most successful interiors are those that still feel beautiful ten or fifteen years later because they were created around quality, proportion and the people who live there.
Timeless doesn’t mean traditional.
It doesn’t mean neutral.
And it certainly doesn’t mean playing it safe.
It means making thoughtful choices that won’t quickly date — selecting materials that age gracefully, investing in well-made furniture, and creating a palette that allows your home to evolve over time.
Some of the most memorable interiors use colour with confidence, but they do so in a way that feels considered rather than fleeting.
The Quiet Power of Cohesion
One of the hardest things to achieve in a home is something many people struggle to describe.
Cohesion.
It’s the reason some homes feel immediately comfortable, while others — despite beautiful individual pieces — never quite come together.
Cohesion isn’t about matching everything.
It’s about creating relationships between spaces.
The timber flooring that connects one room to another. A repeated material that quietly ties a home together. The way a fabric echoes a tone found elsewhere. The consistency of lighting, hardware and finishes.
These details are rarely noticed individually, but together they create a home that feels complete.

When people think about transforming their home, furniture is usually the first thing that comes to mind.
Yet some of the most significant design decisions are often the least obvious.
Window treatments, for example, can completely change the atmosphere of a room. Soft linen sheers filtering Queensland’s beautiful natural light create warmth and movement that blinds alone simply can’t achieve.
Wallpaper has also evolved into one of the most sophisticated ways to introduce texture and depth. Whether it’s a subtle grasscloth, a handcrafted mural or a beautifully textured paper, it can bring personality to a space without overwhelming it.
Lighting is another element that’s frequently underestimated. It influences how colours appear, highlights architectural features and changes the mood of a room from morning through to evening.

One of my favourite parts of any project is discovering the pieces that already have meaning.
A beautiful antique inherited from family. Artwork collected while travelling. A favourite armchair that’s been with you for years.
Good design doesn’t erase those stories. It celebrates them.
Some of the most personal homes I’ve designed combine existing pieces with carefully selected new furnishings. Rather than starting again, we create balance — allowing sentimental pieces to sit comfortably alongside contemporary additions.
